Humans are at the top of the food chain and we don't like to share our homes with horrible pests. They can find their own place to stay instead of infesting your home. That being said, there is no reason to kill any of them simply because we want them to disappear, so we're going to look at some deterrents you can use to convince them to stay away. Your home will feel a lot cleaner once you get rid of them, so test out some of these techniques today.
Grow some basil
Basil is one of the tastiest herbs in the world and it will make certain dishes taste much better, but it's also a great fly deterrent because it releases a subtle fragrance they hate more than anything. In summer flies can be a big problem because they come in through your open windows, so you can try keeping them out by growing basil on your kitchen windowsill. As an added bonus it also makes it easy to pick off a few leaves when you want to throw them into whatever dish you're cooking.
Scare spiders away
Spiders strike fear into the hearts of many people and I'm not sure why because unless they're poisonous they are practically harmless. That doesn't stop people from screaming at the top of their lungs when they see one, so you will need to find a way to get rid of them. They hate lemons and you can use this to your advantage, so squeeze some lemon juice into a spray bottle and mix it with a little water. Spray your doorways, windowsills, and any other places spiders might find their way into your home.
A wasp scarecrow
Wasps can be a real problem and unlike some pests they will actually cause you a great deal of pain if they sting you. If you can keep them away from your home you won't need to worry about getting attacked when you least expect it. Because they're very territorial it's actually quite simple to keep them away. You just need to hang a fake nest and they won't want to build their own one anywhere near it. Hang one at either side of your home and the wasps will stay away from you.
Deter dust mites
Even though you can't see dust mites you know they're lurking around and you don't want them in your home. I bet you have lots of them lying on your bed right now waiting for you to crawl in tonight. If you love the smell of cinnamon you're going to love this trick because it involves spraying cinnamon oil around your home in places where dust mites like to hang out. Just make sure you mix the oil with a little water first and spray it all over your carpets and bedding.
Confuse little ants
Ants don't just wander around aimlessly and I'm sure you've noticed this before since they all seem to be following the same route. They know where to go because they follow scent trails, so if you can get rid of them the ants won't have anywhere to go. Get some vinegar from your cupboard and mix it with water then wipe your surfaces multiple times during the way. You will find the amount of ants wandering around your home will reduce dramatically.
The natural way is easy
You can easily solve most problems on your own through natural means before you need to call the pest control people out. Hopefully you'll be able to use some of the techniques we've spoken about today to get rid of a pest problem you're currently facing, plus if you remember everything you can use them in the future too.
