If you have children at home you need to do things a little differently than you normally would. A kid-friendly home is just as much about you as it is about them. Here are a few different things you should test out if you're not doing them already. I'm sure there will be a few you wish you thought of a long time ago.

Go with an open floor plan

Do you always see big brother hitting little brother when you're in the other room? Even the screams of agony might me muffled by the walls and doors standing in between you and them. If you go with an open floor plan your children won't be able to get away with everything like before because you'll see a lot more of what is going on. It doesn't hurt than open floor plan homes look a lot bigger and your home will look more beautiful when you start knocking down those walls.

Hang the right kind of art

Have you ever walked into a building and came across artwork comprised of words instead of a picture? The reason people hang famous quotes on the wall isn't because they look pretty. It's because they love to read them every day so they're reminded how to live their life. If you have them hanging around your home your children will get to read them throughout their entire childhood. It's almost like teaching them something every day without even speaking to them.

Use lots of rugs

Rugs are easy to clean when they get dirty. After you're finished cleaning them you can take them into the garden to air them out and once they're dry you can throw them back in the house. You can't do the same thing with a carpet, so what are you going to do when your children unleash hell on the beautiful new carpet you bought? By laying some rugs around your home in heavy traffic areas it will help the carpets stay as clean as possible and it will also save you a little cleaning time too.

Choose your fabric wisely

Once your little angels have flown the nest you can furnish your home in any way you see fit, but while they are still there you have to be very careful about the fabric you choose. If your couch is made from expensive white fabric you know it's going to get ruined within months, whereas a cheap fabric in a dark color will last a lot longer. It will last longer because the fabric is darker, but also because you won't care so much if it has stains on it.

Showcase their talents

Do you want your children to grow up with as much confidence as possible? If so, you should start hanging some of their beautiful artwork around your home. Don't just stick a piece of paper to the fridge with a magnet like most people do. Take their best creations and get them framed properly so they can feel proud every time they walk past and see them hanging on the wall. It's one of the easiest ways in the world to boost their confidence and it makes a difference over time.

See any you like?

Are you a fan of any of the suggestions we've spoken about today? You obviously won't be able to implement all of them today, but pick a few of your favorites and test them out. You always need to remember they won't be at home forever and it won't be long until you can do whatever you want inside your own home without the threat of it being destroyed.
