Getting a grip on shopping at Lowes and the Home Depot

in Bathrooms, Home Remodeling, Kitchens

It's very obvious that Lowes and the Home Depot face great challenges in serving customers who are just not that handy. I put myself in that category and I am sure that other men and women do as well. Sure we can do the obvious- go buy a book or search the Web. Like anything else, we have to undertstand the basics and common tools associated with do it yourself (DIY) projects. Cartoons by Howtoons.com and Instructables.com may be an easy and fun way to bridge that knowledge gap and to enable customers to be brave enough to undertake more complex projects. We illustrate this with a couple of examples.

Home Improvement Tools 101
Anyone who is not handy needs to be familiar with some every day tools and specifically pliers and saws. So lets start with a Tool Bucket, Piers and Saws. We use Howtoons because they show "kids of all ages" how to use and build things. As you will see below, they are a great way to get across the point that it's important to use the right tools for the job and how to use them. Click on the photos below and print them out. You will find them very handy around the house and a great lesson for the the kids.

These howtoons are instructional and fun. Just imagine using them to illustrate other home improvement tasks like fixing a leaky faucet, installing an engineered wood floor or ceramic tile. In fact a related company Instructables.com has a whole list of projects for the home. Lowes and the Home Depot should give some serious thought to working with Howtoons and Instructables in putting together a series of toons and howtos, respectively.

Oh in case you are wondering. We are not associated with Howtoons and Instructables. We just think they are pretty cool and address educating consumers who are wanting to do home improvement projects. Besides, the Home Depot and Lowes need some constructive suggestions and we thought this was appropriate.

What do you think? Are these toons useful? Let us know in  your commments below.
