Getting Ready for Moving Day- A Checklist

Here is a general timetable that starts 10 weeks before you actually move. We’ve added a couple of items. You can alter the timetable, but remember everything usually takes longer than you anticipated, so be conservative.

Read the articles on moving that apply, contact your homeowner or rental insurance agent to determine what's covered in a move,and prepare a list of items to be moved.

Do It Yourself Moving Options

There are four options available to you when you move yourself. Some involve driving or not driving a truck. However, no matter what option you choose, you'll have to decide on who will help you to load and unload that truck or moving pod.

You can save a great deal of money and have more control over your goods and furnishings if you move yourself. There are four options available to you: Rent a Truck, do a U Pack Truck Rental, use Moving Pods, and use an Unpacking Service.

Moving does not have to be stressful

About 40+ million Americans move every year. Moving is stressful and costs you time and money. Changing your address should be the lof your worries.

About 262 million people resided in the US in 2000. About 120 million (46 percent) moved and lived in a different home in 2000 than they did in 1995 according to the US Census Bureau. Most people don't move too far though; actually about 53 percent of the population just stays put.

Of those that moved, about 25 percent move within the same county, while only 3 percent move to another country.
